When you need a refreshing break from civilization, a quick trip to one of Nevada's many hiking trails always satisfies. For a short and easy adventure that will still leave you in awe of the area's beauty, check out the Rainbow Vista Trail in Valley of Fire. At just over a mile long and with very little elevation gain, this trail is perfect for families and casual hikers. Additionally, the vibrant landscape is downright mesmerizing! The next time you need an outing, consider this easy-breezy trail.
Overton's famous Valley of Fire State Park is loaded with great hiking trails. We love them all, but one of our favorites is the Rainbow Vista Trail. This hike is just as colorful as it sounds, and it's quite easy to accomplish!
The trailhead for this short and easy trail can be found by driving up White Domes Road from the Visitor Center. The turnout for the Rainbow Vista trailhead is marked and boasts a parking lot where you can leave your vehicle.
As soon as you step out of your car, you'll be blown away by the colorful landscape that surrounds you. It's easy to see why the trail gots its name, as the area is chock full of rock formations in vibrant shades of white, yellow, red, and pink.
A sign near the trailhead gives hikers a brief understanding of the area's geologic history. The colorful Rainbow Vista is the result of 150 million years of erosion and geologic activity. It's filled with canyons, domes, towers, valleys, and so much more.
The trail is short and flat, but be aware that it can get incredibly hot during the summer. This hike is best done during cooler weather, so try to avoid a mid-day adventure. Otherwise, this 1.1-mile out-and-back trail is an absolute breeze.
Trail markers lead hikers through the vibrant scenery and straight to an overlook of the beautiful Fire Canyon. From here, you'll witness breathtaking panoramic views of the canyon and surrounding rock formations.
Exploring the best of what Valley of Fire has to offer can feel overwhelming. There's just so much to see! However, the Rainbow Vista Trail is a great way to see some of the park's best scenery without venturing too far. Keep it in mind the next time you need a quick but memorable adventure.
