We may be in the desert, but there are plenty of places to do just that! This natural waterpark is a little-known gem hiding out in the very southern tip of our state. It boasts miles of sandy beaches along the Colorado River that are perfect for lounging on along with refreshing water that is perfect for soaking in. Situated on the shores of the Colorado River, Big Bend of the Colorado State Recreation Area is considered Nevada's newest state park. Opened in 1996, you'll find it in the town of Laughlin. Get ready, because this is about to become your favorite place to hang out this summer.
Big Bend is the perfect place to have a full on "beach day" right here in Nevada. Within the park you'll be treated to dramatic views of both the river and the gorgeous mountain surroundings. The setting is absolutely perfect for a relaxing day on the river.
The park is comprised of two miles of sandy shoreline. Who knew rivers could have such amazing beaches? We did, of course, but Big Bend is a nice reminder.
The park is located downstream from Davis Dam which means the river is clear and cool all year long. A dip in the river is the perfect cure for the dry summer heat.
The river may be the park's main attraction but you'll find that there's plenty to do around the park. Hiking trails lead you through the park's beautiful rock formations and canyons. There are spots to picnic and play volleyball. The park even contains several RV and tent campsites that you'll definitely want to take advantage of.
There are several boat launching areas along the beach. Just keep in mind that boating and fishing are regulated by Arizona, California, and Nevada so you'll definitely want to familiarize yourself with each state's requirements and regulations.
Man-made waterparks with slides and pools have nothing on this natural waterpark. Weekends in the summer do tend to get busy, but Big Bend is very peaceful for the most part.. You'll have plenty of space to yourself along the river's shores.
The park is located approximately five miles south of Laughlin, far away from the noise of traffic and the city. A peaceful and serene sunset over the river is the perfect ending to a day spent at this wonderful natural waterpark.
