When people think of Las Vegas, they usually think of the glitz and all-around craziness of the "Strip" and all its casinos, shows, and colorful street life. Las Vegas though, has many lovely natural spaces and parks and one of the most popular with locals is Sunset Park.
Sunset Park is known as the "crown jewel" of the Clark County park system. The park is an oasis in the middle of busy Las Vegas.
The park is 323 acres and has something for everyone who loves the outdoors to enjoy.
One of the loveliest attractions in the park is the Sunset Park Pond. The pond covers 14 acres.
The pond is home to ducks, geese, and even pelicans. The ducks have their own little island in the middle of the lake.
Fishing is a popular activity and the pond is regularly stocked with rainbow trout and catfish. Anglers can catch bluegill and largemouth bass as well.
Children love the park, especially in the summer where they can play and cool off in this fun splash pad. There are five playgrounds total throughout the park. There are also several large dog parks within the park's total acreage.
On the weekends in the warm months, you can always find families having a meal at one of the park's shaded picnic areas. They can then enjoy a game of tennis, volleyball or basketball in the many facilities for pick up sports. Organized sports teams regularly hold softball and baseball games in the 11 fields (9 softball, 2 Little League). All are lighted and night time games are held often.
If you enjoy walking, the park has a trail system that goes from one end to the other. Walkers, joggers and bikers are frequently seen from early morning to early evening on the paths.
The shortest path is 1/4 of a mile and the longest is 1 mile. In total there are 3-1/2 miles of trails and pathways. Some are packed dirt while others are paved. There are all types of scenery as well; you can choose to jog on paths landscaped with desert plants or through gentle grassy hills under green trees.
Festivals love using the park's ample grounds. The annual Renaissance Faire is particularly popular with the locals. Charity runs are also held often on the park trails.
