It's no secret that there are many spectacular hiking trails located throughout Nevada. Between state parks, canyons and conservation areas, there's no shortage when it comes to hiking spots in Nevada. If you're a fan of hiking, but don't enjoy taking long, strenuous hikes, you're in luck. In addition to Nevada's long and strenuous hiking trails, many short hiking trails are also located throughout the state. Some are even less than five miles, including the 10 hiking trails listed below.
1. Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge - 3.7 Miles
Besides hiking, other recreational activities such as bird watching, fishing and hunting are also enjoyed by Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge guests. This refuge is such a beautiful area to hike. As a matter of fact, it's so beautiful that you may want to extend your hike for an extra day or two. The Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge is located in Alamo, Nevada.
2. The Potato Knoll - 4.7 Miles
The Potato Knoll is an amazing hike within the Red Rock Canyon. While hiking this incredible trail, you'll stumble upon huge rock formations and a numerous amount of beautiful cacti. The Potato Knoll is also known as "Wilson's Pimple."
3. Kraft Mountain Loop Trail - 4 Miles
Kraft Mountain is located within the Calico Basin. Hikers will experience incredible scenery and amazing rock formations as they take this hike.
4. Ice Box Canyon Trail - 2.6 Miles
The Ice Box Canyon Trail is located within the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area and is a great hike for a hot day. Hikers that take this trail are led through a cool canyon with beautiful waterfalls. Because sunlight hardly ever enters the canyon, it's always cool - hence the name "Ice Box Canyon."
5. Turtlehead Mountain - 2.2 Miles
Turtlehead Mountain (Turtlehead Peak), which is located within the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, is well known for being one of the steepest hikes in the area. Hikers will be expected to climb approximately 2,000 feet in 2.15 miles. And if that wasn't hard enough, they'll also be expected to make an 800 vertical-feet climb in only 0.4 miles.
6. Gold Strike Canyon Hot Springs Trail - 4.5 Miles
Gold Strike Canyon Hot Springs is such a beautiful place. However, depending on your fitness level, hiking through this canyon can be quite strenuous. There's a lot of climbing involved, so be sure to wear a great pair of shoes. This amazing hiking spot is located in Boulder City, Nevada.
7. White Domes Loop Trail - 1.3 Miles
The White Domes Loop Trail, located within the Valley of Fire State Park, is an easy hike that features a natural arch and slot canyon. This is one of the most popular trails in the park.
8. Lone Mountain - 2.2 Miles
While hiking Lone Mountain, hikers will experience incredible views of Las Vegas. And even though this trail is a simple hike up and down the mountain, it still provides a great workout. Lone Mountain is also a great hiking location for the entire family.
9. Calico Tanks Trail - 2.2 Miles
In addition to hiking, the Calico Tanks Trail is also used for walking and bird watching. This popular trail, located within the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, is only accessible from February to October. Be sure to keep that in mind. Also, if you're a dog owner, you'll be happy to know that dogs are allowed to come along with you on this hike.
10. Alpine Lakes Loop Trail - 2.7 Miles
The Alpine Lakes Loop Trail, located within Great Basin National Park, connects two beautiful alpine lakes: Stella Lake and Teresa Lake. In addition to experiencing these beautiful lakes, hikers will also get to experience many incredible views of Wheeler Peak.
