This particular hot springs trail has literally everything you could ever want out of an adventure: stunning views, twists and turns, pristine natural beauty, and of course, plenty of hot spring pools for soaking. There's a whole lot to love about this hike so be sure to add it to your winter bucket list.
When you find yourself searching for adventure in southern Nevada, there's no better choice than the hike to Gold Strike Hot Spring. Full of rock scrambling, cliff jumping, wildlife viewing, and epic scenery, this hike has a little bit of everything—including some delightful hot spring soaking at the end.
Gold Strike Canyon is located just an hour from the Las Vegas Strip, right outside Boulder City. Not only is this canyon home to some heavenly hot spring pools, but the trail itself offers an outdoor experience like none other. If you think you're up for it, you'll find that the effort of traversing this trail really pays off.
To get to the trailhead, you'll drive along Highway 95 from Las Vegas before taking Exit 15B in Boulder City. The trail begins just before the Mike O'Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge. The trail starts off fairly flat, winding through the canyon and boasting breathtaking scenery.
You'll feel as if you've been swept into a different world as you find yourself surrounded by the vertical canyon walls. The trail begins to get more difficult when you enter the canyon, and you'll be required to scramble over rocks using provided ropes and "steps".
You'll start to descend further down into the canyon as you climb up and over the rocks. It won't be long until you reach the springs at the bottom, which acts as the source for the hot spring pools you're about to encounter.
As you continue along, you'll find several hot spring pools scattered throughout the canyon. Test out the waters to discover which pool is calling to you. Soaking in one of these pools while surrounded by the canyon's scenery will make you feel like you've fallen into a secret oasis. It's positively magical.
The general consensus is that the "nicer" pools, located beside waterfalls and caves, are located further down into the canyon. If you continue all the way down, you'll eventually come upon the Colorado River where you can dip your toes and cool down before heading back.
Soaking in these hot spring pools is the perfect reward after a strenuous hike. Winter is the perfect time to set out on this adventure, since the canyon's summer heat can become dangerous for hikers. If you do decide to find Gold Strike Hot Springs, be sure to bring a hiking buddy and plenty of water.
