Even though Nevada is known as the driest state in the U.S., it's home to many AMAZING lakes, reservoirs, streams and rivers that provide great fishing opportunities. Listed below are 10 of the BEST fishing spots in Nevada that continue to attract fishermen year after year.
1. Wild Horse Reservoir
Wild Horse Reservoir, which is located approximately 65 miles north of Elko on State Route 225, is made up of numerous species of fish such as brown trout, yellow perch, rainbow trout, channel catfish, smallmouth bass, etc.
2. Cave Lake
Cave Lake, located approximately 15 miles southeast of Ely on State Route 486, consists of 2,700 acres of water and offers INCREDIBLE scenery. At this lake, fishing season is open year-round and it contains several different types of trout such as rainbow trout, planter trout, wild brown trout and tiger trout.
3. Knott Creek Reservoir
Knott Creek Reservoir is located in Humboldt County, Nevada, within the Pine Forest Mountains. This reservoir is well known for producing "catch and release" fish.
4. Truckee River
The Truckee River is Western Nevada's largest river and it contains an abundance of rainbow trout, brown trout and Lahontan cutthroat trout. Fishing season is open year-round, day or night, on the Truckee River.
5. Ruby Lake
Ruby Lake, located approximately 70 miles southeast of Elko in the Ruby Valley, is famous for its largemouth bass.
6. Lake Tahoe
Lake Tahoe, the laregst alpine lake in the U.S., is located in Washoe, Douglas and Carson City counties. This GORGEOUS lake was formed almost 2 million years ago and contains a wide variety of trout such as brook trout, rainbow trout, golden trout and brown trout.
7. Eagle Valley Reservoir
Eagle Valley Reservoir is located within Spring Valley State Park, approximately 18 miles from the town of Pioche. This reservoir is filled with an abundance of rainbow trout, tiger trout and brown trout, and it also provides plenty of shoreline, as well as a fishing dock that's accessible to anglers.
8. Echo Canyon Reservoir
Echo Canyon Reservoir, which consists of 65 acres of water, is located within Echo Canyon State Park and is made up of rainbow trout, largemouth bass, brown trout, speckled dace, etc. Fishing season is year-round, any hour, day or night, at this reservoir.
9. Lake Mohave
Lake Mohave is located on the Colorado River and was formed by Davis Dam. This lake consists of 28,260 acres of water and is filled with various types of fish such as rainbow trout, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, channel catfish, common carp and sunfish.
10. Lake Mead
Lake Mead, which is located on the Colorado River about 25 miles southeast of Las Vegas, is the largest man-made lake in the U.S. This BEAUTIFUL lake contains an abundance of fish species such as rainbow trout, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, channel catfish, crappie, bluegill sunfish, etc. Sadly, Lake Mead's water levels continue to drop because of the current drought, and at the moment it's at its lowest levels since it was built in the 1930s.
