Beauty can be found almost everywhere you look in our state. However, there's something about spending the day strolling through a beautiful botanical garden that just can't be beat. Celebrate the arrival of spring by seeking out this dazzling display of flowers and plants. We can't think of a better way to spend the day! This garden, in particular, is famous for its natural beauty and it's a sight that every nature-loving Nevadan should see for themselves. Let's take a look at one of our favorite botanical gardens in Reno.
The Wilbur D. May Arboretum & Botanical Garden is a beloved attraction within Rancho San Rafael Regional Park in Reno. Bursting with natural beauty, it's a wonderful place to spend a spring day.
Comprised of 23 acres, the garden is open year-round with no charge for admission. Immediately upon strolling in, you'll get the sense that this place is something special.
The botanical garden is home to over 4,000 native and adaptive plant species. However, it's the location that makes this place truly special. With only 120 days of growing season at an elevation of 4,600 feet, the garden's temperature fluctuates up to 40 degrees in a single day.
On top of its wonky temperatures, the garden only receives around 4 to 8 inches of precipitation throughout the year. These conditions can obviously be deadly for certain plants, but they can actually survive with proper care and maintenance.
It's easy to lose track of time as you peruse the garden's endless treasures. You'll find yourself checking out every nook and cranny of this magical place while soaking up the garden's tranquil beauty.
The garden is broken up into several different sections, such as the Burke Garden, Songbird Garden, Dixie's Plaza, and Honey's Garden. Each section contains its own unique variety of flowers and plants.
Lose yourself in a world of waterfalls, trees, gazebos, rock gardens, and so much more when you visit the Wilbur D. May Arboretum & Botanical Garden. With the arrival of spring, this garden starts to come alive with color. Visit it at 1595 N Sierra St, Reno, NV 89503.
