Nebraska is irrefutably steak country. We like our beef, and we know exactly how we want it. You can get a steak just about anywhere in the state, but these 14 restaurants serve up something a little special when it comes to perfectly cooked, well-seasoned, absolutely delectable steak.
1. Brother Sebastian's Steakhouse, Omaha
This unusual Omaha eatery gets a 10/10 for atmosphere. Modeled after a monastery and featuring "monks" as servers, this upscale eatery makes for a fun visit. But your surroundings won't even matter once you bite into one of their juicy, perfectly-cooked steaks.
2. Ole's Big Game Steakhouse, Paxton
Ole's has some of the most bizarre decor in the state: taxidermied hunting trophies and hunting memorabilia cover every available surface. But it so happens that they also serve an excellent steak that people don't mind traveling for.
3. Misty's Steakhouse & Brewery, Lincoln
Recognized by the Nebraska Beef Council and Restaurant & Hospitality Magazine, Misty's has been going strong since the '60s. One of the qualities that sets them apart from other steakhouses is their unique seasoning, which is so popular that it's now available in retail locations.
4. Farmer Brown's Steak House, Waterloo
Once visited by the Travel Channel's show "Steak Paradise," this favorite in Waterloo has legions of devoted fans who have no problem traveling just to eat here.
5. The Single Barrel, Lincoln
Located very close to Memorial Stadium, Single Barrel will serve you one of the finest steaks you've ever had and recommend a whisky from their extensive selection that will pair perfectly.
6. Peppermill & EKV Lounge, Valentine
If you really love meat, this is the place to be. serving up delectable sandwiches along with mind-blowing steak, Peppermill should absolutely be on your steak-eating bucket list.
7. The Drover, Omaha
We could do an entire list of excellent steakhouses just in Omaha, but we'll let this be the last one here. The Drover has been named "Best Steakhouse in Omaha" by critics, and you'll see why when you take your first melt-in-your-mouth bite of whiskey-marinated steak.
8. Bar J Steakhouse, Hay Springs
Despite the fact that a lot of Nebraskans have never heard of Hay Springs, this place ranks right up there with the best of the best. Expect the kind of meat you'd find in a big city, but served in a small-town atmosphere.
9. Butch's Steakhouse, Hershey
This small-town eatery packs a punch when it comes to quality steak. Reviewers say the ambiance of the restaurant could use some work, but come on - who notices ambiance when you've got your face buried in a top-notch prime rib?
10. Round the Bend Steakhouse, Ashland
Just up the road from Mahoney State Park, Round the Bend serves what has been called the "best steak ever" by reviewers. This always-fun place is best known for its annual Testicle Festival, but that's not all they do well.
11. Dude's Steakhouse, SIdney
Dude's has been serving up tasty steak since 1952. The Sidney staple is seriously beloved by locals and visitors alike.
12. Walker's Steakhouse and Lounge, Gothenburg
This no-nonsense steakhouse is a bit off the beaten path, so you won't be jockeying for elbow space with a lot of tourists. Gothenburg may be a small town, but Walker's serves up steak with big flavor.
13. Steel Grill, Scottsbluff
You have some choices when looking for a place to have dinner in Scottsbluff, but the Steel Grill offers up truly superb steak...so really, why would you consider going anywhere else?
14. Palace Steak House, Red Cloud
After a day of wandering through historic Red Cloud, refuel with a hearty steak meal at the Palace. Service is fast and friendly, and you'll be glad you stopped in once you get a taste of their outstanding steak.
