We're in the middle of autumn here in the Cornhusker State, and the fall foliage is fading fast. It's time to get out there and bask in the beauty of the season before it's gone, and one of the best places to do that is Indian Cave State Park. In addition to the cave petroglyphs, the park is full of the stunning jewel tones of fall.
Indian State Park is one of the prettiest jewels in the Nebraska state park system and it's particularly lovely during autumn months.
The park stretches out over 3,052 wooded acres that burst into vibrant color as the hardwood forest's leaves change.
Take a stroll along one of several trails at the park to experience the crisp, fresh fall air, and get an up-close look at the foliage.
You'll find bright autumn tones of yellow, orange, and red all throughout the park.
With 22 miles of hiking trails, you're certain to get your fill of fall foliage here this season.
During your exploration of the park, keep an eye out for wildlife. You're likely to see deer here, as well as wild turkeys, woodchucks, beavers, and a host of birds.
Venture to the scenic overlook on Loop Road to get a good overall view of the park.
It goes without saying that you'll want to have your camera along for this excursion!
Of course, you'll also want to take the stairs down to the boardwalk that runs along Indian Cave's wall. Check out the Native American petroglyphs.
Practice your skills at the archery range...
...learn about the history of this place by visiting the restored schoolhouse and trapper's cabin...
...and take a guided horseback ride.
You can camp at Indian State Park year-round, so there's no need to leave at the end of the day. Bring your tent to stay in a primitive site, or bring your RV.
