Love it or hate it, winter is coming to Montana. Our ski resorts become jam-packed with outdoor enthusiasts, while the rest of us just try to keep warm and have as much fun as possible. No matter how you feel about the coming season, you’ve probably thought at least a few of these things lately (or you soon will).
1. “Oh, no.”
Why are we so surprised by winter every year? It’s as certain as death and taxes, especially in Montana.
2. “I should really check my snow tire and chain situation.”
Some of us are great about thinking ahead. And then there are the rest of us. Is your car winter-ready?
3. “Just how bad is it going to be?”
In Montana, winter is a gamble. We've seen everything from warm, sunny Christmas days to snow flurries in July.
4. “I wish everyone was as good of a driver as I am.”
Learning to drive in the snow should be a requirement here.
5. "Time to get outside."
Not everyone in Montana is into skiing, snowmobiling or snowboarding. But for those who are, winter is an amazing time.
6. “Oh boy. Snow days.”
These words have different meanings for students and parents.
7. “Did it get this cold last year? There’s no way it was this cold last year.”
How soon we forget.
8. "I'm so sorry I ever complained about the heat."
That hot August afternoon sounds pretty good now, doesn't it?

9. “Montana winters really are beautiful.”
Eventually, we come to a peaceful place of acceptance.
10. “I wonder how all the Californians are enjoying their Montana winter… hehehe.”
We need to be welcoming to our new neighbors... but it's OK to smirk a little.
Whether or not you're a fan of the cold weather, Montana winters are definitely beautiful. Here are some photos of our snowcapped landscapes.
