While there's a lot to love about Montana, some might say our state might be even better if it bordered the ocean. That being said, everyone knows a day at the lake is just as relaxing and fun, and we happen to have a few lakes with beaches that rival anything you'll find on a coastal state. Spend a day at Whitefish City Beach and you'll see what we mean.
Whitefish is charming in any season, but it's especially delightful in the summer.
Instead of bundling up and hitting the slopes, everyone heads to the lake.
The water in Whitefish Lake almost rivals the clear, pristine waters of the Caribbean on a warm, sunny day...
...but the beautiful mountain backdrops in the distance will remind you that you're still very much in Montana.
Blue waters, big skies, and mountain landscapes make for a beautiful day by the lake.
Not only is Whitefish's City Beach a blast to enjoy, but it's also totally free to use.
And while you might find a crowd here on a hot summer day, there are also plenty of times when the park is secluded.
Whitefish Lake is a 7-mile long glacial lake popular for fishing and water sports.

City Beach is located near the lake's outflow.
It isn't easy to find white, sandy beaches in Montana, so it isn't hard to see why this one is so popular.
In addition to a dedicated swimming area, the beach park has docks, a gazebo, a shaded grass area, and picnic tables.
The park is open all year, although the restrooms are only open from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day.
The city of Whitefish asks that you leave your dogs at home.
