Among the many, many wonders of Glacier National Park, you'll find plenty of amazing hiking trails of all lengths and some seriously stunning waterfalls. And if you happen to find the Florence Falls Trail, you'll see both — and the waterfall is shaped like a steep staircase.
The hike to Florence Falls begins from the Jackson Glacier Overlook, located about 13 miles from the St. Mary Entrance Station on Going-to-the-Sun Road.
The trail is just over 9 miles in length in its entirety, so start early in the morning if you want to complete the whole thing.
You'll see a little bit of everything on the hike, and it's a wonderful way to see Glacier at its finest. You'll even see another waterfall, Deadwood Falls, on your way to the main attraction.
The trail drops over 600 feet in the first mile, which sounds great until you remember you'll have to climb back up on your way out.
Eventually, you'll come to the beautiful Florence Falls, which looks like a steep staircase cascading down the mountain.
The water flows down a series of segmented tiers, giving it its unique look.
The waterfall is breathtaking up close and well worth the journey.
This is one of the most impressive waterfalls in the park, which is really saying something.
Because of the length of the hike, this trail doesn't get as many of the crowds you'll see on the park's shorter and more easily accessible trails.
If you leave early enough in the morning, you just might have this beautiful spot to yourself.
When you've had your fill of the falls, continue on this unique trek and enjoy the scenery.
Just remember, you'll have to end this beautiful hike with a short but steep incline.
This might not feel like the best way to end a 9-mile hike, but it's worth the sore legs and tired feet.
