It's no secret that most Montanans love to hike - not only is it great exercise, it gives us a chance to enjoy the most beautiful natural scenery on Earth. All over the state, there are beautiful places to explore, and whether you're looking for a mountain trek, forest adventure, or canyon crusade, you'll find all sorts of scenic hikes right here! Waterfall hikes are particularly peaceful, especially when you get to see two of them on the trail. The next time you go to Glacier National Park, make sure you find the St. Mary and Virginia Falls Trail, which we happen to think is one of the best hikes in Montana!
The hike begins at the St. Mary Falls Trailhead, which is located 10 miles west of the St. Mary Entrance Station on the Going-To-The-Sun Road, AKA America's most scenic highway!
Parking can be an issue, so make sure you arrive early in the day.
Even without the waterfalls, this is a gorgeous hike.
But that's to be expected... this is Glacier National Park, after all.
You'll reach St. Mary Falls first, less than a mile into your hike.
Enjoy the views of St. Mary Falls for awhile before you proceed.
It's amazing that one of Glacier National Park's most stunning natural wonders can be accessed so easily.
As you continue on toward Virginia Falls, you'll see several smaller falls along the way...
... and depending on the time of year, you might see some beautiful wildflowers.
Eventually, you'll reach Virginia Falls.
Virginia Falls is a multi-tiered waterfall, with the main fall dropping about 50 feet.
Pictures do not do this amazing waterfall justice.
Some would argue that this is the most impressive waterfall in the park.
Good news, beginners: This trail really isn't all that difficult.
It's just over three miles in length, and it's considered to be a pretty easy hike.
Well -- what do you think? Are you still on the hunt for "waterfalls near me" in Montana? We totally get it. If you love waterfalls, check out this perfect Montana weekend itinerary.
