Waterfall hikes are beautiful, but after a few hiking seasons, you may feel like you've seen every waterfall in Montana that is also easily accessible. But the Treasure State is full of hidden gems, and that includes a fairly easy trail that most Montanans tend to miss. If you're wondering about "waterfalls near me" that you can hike to, you must check out this amazing trail.
There are over 120 named waterfalls in Montana, and there are probably plenty of others we have yet to discover.
Pine Creek Falls has definitely been discovered, although it remains an off-the-radar gem to this day.
The Pine Creek Falls Trail is located near Livingston and to find it, you'll have to head toward the Pine Creek Campground.
Luckily, it's an easy drive with well-marked signs. Just drive five miles south on Highway 89 and take a left on East River Road. Next, drive about nine miles and turn left on Luccock Park Road. The campground is about two miles up the road.
The trail itself is about 2.5 miles in length, out-and-back. It's considered a moderately challenging hike for its size.
The path is mostly flat, especially in the beginning.
You'll cross two foot bridges, one of which is significantly more harrowing than the other.
If you crossed this creek on this bridge, would you be dry when you finished?
Eventually, you'll reach the beautiful Pine Creek Falls.
And while the trail stays open most of the year, the best time to see this stunner is in the summer.
While it's possible to keep hiking to Pine Creek Lake, the vast majority of hikers stop at the falls.
And rest assured, this is a perfect halfway point.
The Pine Creek Falls Trail makes a perfect day hike.
Check it out if you'll be spending some time in Bozeman or Livingston this summer.
