There are a LOT of beautiful places to find some much-needed relaxation here in Big Sky country. But one Montana hot spring is certainly something extra special! Chico Hot Springs is a historic resort located in the small community of Pray, Montana, about 45 miles from Bozeman. And we're not exaggerating when we say people from all over Montana - and the entire Northwest - spend hours in their cars just to soak in the hot, healing waters. In fact, this welcoming hot spring in Montana has been warming Big Sky residents and travelers for more than a century.
Chico Hot Spring Resort is a wonderful weekend getaway destination in any season.
Whether you spend the night or just stop by for a soak and a meal, you'll leave feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
The resort is a true Montana icon, dating all the way back to 1900.
Back then, it was known as the Chico Warm Springs Hotel, an elegant that included a brass band, a ball, and a high tea.
For decades after, Chico's was known as a modest boarding house for travelers and miners who needed a warm bed and a healing soak.
The guests were promised a clean bed, hot bath, and fresh strawberries with every meal for a mere $6 a week. The business continued to grow and thrive, eventually becoming the hot spot it is today.
The property holds numerous rooms and suites in several lodges, a historic dining room, saloon, and poolside grille, and a relaxing day spa.
You can also book activities like fly fishing, river rafting, and snowshoeing, depending on the season. The saloon can be quite lively on summer nights, and it's safe to say this place even has a rich nightlife.
The rooms range from standard spaces in the historic main lodge to private cabins and even a covered wagon.
Families appreciate the cozy cabins and Cowboy Camp options, which can host a large group.
The soothing mineral waters are the main attraction, and the soaking pools are kept at around 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
They're also drained and scrubbed down every night in order to prevent the need to use chemicals in the water.
There's never a bad time to visit Chico Hot Springs, in our opinion.
But there is truly something special about a hot soak on a snowy winter day!
