If you grew up in Montana, there's a pretty good chance you preferred natural watering holes to public pools for cooling off on a hot day. For an unforgettable adventure, you'll want to plan a trip to Devils Glen. Montana is home to several natural swimming holes, and this is just one of them. To reach Devils Glen, a beautiful natural Montana swimming hole, you'll follow a five-mile trail near Augusta.
The trail starts at the end of Dearborn Canyon Road, 20 miles southwest of Augusta.
Despite its length, this trail is considered both easy and family-friendly.
You'll walk along a pleasant path for the first two miles...
...and at mile 2.5, you'll reach the beautiful swimming hole.
The swimming conditions will depend on water levels and temperatures.
For those who would rather not swim, there are plenty of places for wading or dipping toes in the water as well.
This is a popular trail and swimming hole, but you might get lucky and find it perfectly quiet and uncrowded.
You'll have the option of continuing your hike after you find the main swimming hole, but most people do choose to relax there for a few hours and then go back the way they came.
Devils Glen can be accessed any time of year, but, of course, we prefer our swimming hole trips to be in the summer. If you love the idea of more adventures in the state, consider a subscription to AllTrails+ for updates on conditions and offline access to maps. And don't set out before you have all the best gear to keep you safe.
A hike and a swim at Devils Glen practically guarantees a perfect day. However, if you'd prefer a more man-made adventure, you can always check out Woodland Water Park in Kalispell.
