If you grew up in the Bitterroot, you've probably made some beautiful memories at Lake Como. A picturesque lake sitting in the midst of a dramatic mountain setting, it's definitely one of Montana's most iconic spots. And it's just secluded enough that many people visiting the nearby town of Hamilton don't even know it's there.
Lake Como is located in the Bitterroot National Forest along Route 93.
It's not far from the town of Darby, but when you reach it, you'll feel like you're a million miles from civilization.
Some of the best views of the lake and the mountains can be enjoyed from the 7 mile Lake Como Loop Trail.
The trail is good for all skill levels and includes plenty of scenic surprises, like a waterfall.
During the summer, Lake Como Beach is heaven on Earth.
The fresh lake water is cold, but once you get used to it, it's an amazing spot for swimming.
To know Lake Como is to love Lake Como. Once people discover this gem, they tend to return.
That being said, you can still enjoy some solitude here if you come early in the morning and avoid summer weekends.
