At the end of summer or in early fall, many Montanans decide that the hiking season is over and hang up their boots until the following year. But believe it or not, the Treasure State actually has plenty of trails that are open all year. And while some might require a pair of snowshoes and special gear, it's worth bundling up and exploring. The Champagne Falls Trail is especially enchanting this time of year, especially when you reach the frozen falls.
The Champagne Falls Trail is a 6-mile hike located in the Hyalite Canyon region, about 25 miles from Bozeman.
Needless to say, this is a popular trek in the summer.
Champagne Falls is an appropriate name for this waterfall, which has twisting, winding water flowing to the bottom.
And no matter what season you hike this trail, the falls will always take your breath away.
You'll love traipsing through the snow to your destination, with nothing but the soft, quiet sounds of nature after a snowfall.
Remember to bundle up, pack all appropriate gear, and take plenty of water and provisions along.
While the trail is fairly well-marked, you'll want to pay plenty of attention to your surroundings since it's so easy to get lost and turned around in the woods.
Luckily, with scenery like this, paying attention will be a breeze.
Before you know it, you'll reach Champagne Falls.
Whether or not the falls will be frozen will depend on winter's weather... but the odds are good that you'll experience a delightful (and icy) scene.
The Champagne Falls Trail is ranked as a moderate hike, meaning beginners will enjoy it as much as experienced hikers.
Plus, if you go now, you'll definitely cure any cabin fever that might be sneaking in.
There are several trails that will lead you to Champagne Falls, but we definitely think this designated path is the best. Do you have a favorite waterfall hike in Montana?
