The Roaring River Spring at Roaring River State Park in Barry County is a wildly popular spot for outdoor recreation. The gorgeous river is nearly opaque blue in places, and in other spots, the water is so clear you can easily see the scores of giant trout swimming past.
Among other things, this incredible Missouri state park offers ample opportunity for hiking...
...fly fishing...
...and spectacular sightseeing. When we say spectacular... we REALLY mean it.
The main attraction in this Missouri State Park is the famous Roaring River Spring.
Make sure you refer to a Roaring River State Park map to plan out your day.
Tucked away in this cave is the main spring that feeds the 15-mile river.
Water trickles down from high above and also gushes steadily from below.
The gorgeous blue spring is more than 220 feet in depth.
Divers attempting to reach the spring's source are often unsuccessful because the current gets so strong at the head of the spring that they simply can't make it there. So what makes the water so blue? It's a mixture of factors, but primarily it's thanks to the dissolved limestone and dolomite within the water plus its unusually deep depths!
An average of 20 million gallons of water are fed into the Roaring River every single day by this incredible spring.
It's almost otherworldly in its beauty; it resembles something out of a fairy tale instead of just lil' ol' Missouri.
