Missouri is certainly not the first state you think of when looking to hit the beach this summer. However, we do have some great little beaches along our lakes and rivers. It's pretty uncommon to find a sandy beach here in the Show Me State but this time we have two amazing sandy beaches to tell you about! Head to the west side of the state to Smithville, Missouri and find Smithville Lake. With two public beaches, you can fill your summer with amazing memories spent building sandcastles and splashing around. So what are you waiting for...time to hit the beach!
Just about 40 minutes north of Kansas City is Smithville Lake.
Beyond the stunning views, there is one great reason why you should visit Smithville Lake.
There are two beautiful sandy beaches available for summer fun!
Little Platte Beach and Camp Branch Beach are open from May 1st until Sept. 15th. So even after the local pools close you can still hit the beach.
Unlike your local pool there is plenty of room to spread out. Feel free to bring those rafts and Instagram worth floats.
If you're ready for a lunch break you can take your meal to a near by shelter or picnic table to get away from the sand.
In addition to the amazing beaches there are also great playgrounds located around Smithville Lake. Your kids are guaranteed to have a great day!
If boating is more your style you can access the marina near Camp Branch Beach. Grab your camping gear and spend the weekend up at the lake!
While these beaches may not be a secret to locals, if you haven't had the opportunity to visit Smithville Lake you won't regret making the trip. These beautiful sand beaches are a rarity in our land locked state so don't miss out on these great summer spots!
Find Smithville Lake at 17201 Paradesian, Smithville. From there find Camp Branch Beach located on the east side of the lake within Camp Branch Bauman Park. While you can locate Little Platte beach within Little Platte Park on the west side of the lake and is accessed from 180th Street.
