Hidden all over the Kansas City area are plenty of areas with amazing natural wonders. Things like parks, water features, and our wonderful attractions are all part of the Kansas City charm. So, next time you're at a loss for what to do and you need some time outdoors, check out these nine natural wonders hiding here!
1. Lakeside Nature Center
This center in Swope Park is a great piece of greenery to explore and learn about animals in our ecosystems here. They also rehabilitate local wildlife and use some of them in classes to help teach others about their wild neighbors.
2. Indian Creek Bike and Hike Trail - Santa Fe Commons Park
To be honest, this 23 mile trail is longer than most people want to explore in a day. However, there are several loops to use if you're just wanting to see a few landmarks.
3. Kansas City Zoo
I know the animals here aren't all natives of the area, but that doesn't make them less of a natural wonder. Here, you can see all sorts of creatures close up, and it never gets old no matter how many times you visit!
4. Ewing and Muriel Kauffman Memorial Garden
This privately run garden is so gorgeous, and we're lucky it's free and open to the public for viewing. There's so many butterflies and other little creatures flitting in and out of the beautiful flowers it's hard to keep track of! It's perfect for a walk if you have a little time to spare, though.
5. The Missouri River
Nothing's more beautiful than a Kansas City sunset, and there's so much beauty in watching it reflect off of our gorgeous river.
6. Burr Oak Woods Nature Center
1,071 acres of woodlands, ponds, and other natural attractions. You could spend all day here and still have plenty to do for days to come!
7. Anita B. Gorman Conservation Discovery Center
Inside, there's so much information about our local ecosystems and how they work. Outside, they have a wildflower garden that's full of life when in bloom.
8. Swope Park
Swope park is huge, and that means there are plenty of areas to explore, and plenty of reasons to keep coming back to see more. There's hiking, biking, and plenty of great areas for family fun and yard games. What's not to like?
9. Macken Park
This area is great for kite flying, and picnics. Both are a great excuse for a day out in the sun.
