Adventure lurks around just about every corner in Missouri if we know where to look. The good news is we don't always need all day for an adventure that yields a lifetime of memories. This Missouri State Park, for example, offers a glimpse into yesterday with its old-fashioned covered bridge, and it's the ideal destination if you're short on time.
A throwback to yesteryear, covered bridges hearken back to a simpler time; once upon a time, Missouri claimed 30 covered bridges. That number has dwindled to just four.
One of those covered bridges sits in Locust Creek Covered Bridge State Historic Site in Laclede, a 33-acre park that promises an adventure that won't take all day.

If you're in a rush, you won't need more than a half an hour to make the trek to and from the covered bridge.
Over a wooden footbridge that passes over Locust Creek. The gravel trail gets incredibly muddy after a rain, so keep that in mind if you hike after a rainfall.
Keep an eye out for loose rocks, too. Locust Creek Covered Bridge Trail is predominately flat.
Stroll through the historic covered bridge that dates back to 1868; it spans just 151 feet and offers the perfect backdrop for photos and selfies.
The historic covered bridge earned a coveted spot on the National Register of Historic Places in 1969.
Although small the state park in Missouri offers the perfect opportunity - and place - for a leisurely picnic.
If you're a fan of birds, bring your binoculars. The Missouri state park is home to more than 100 birds, including mallards, ruby-throated hummingbirds, and eastern bluebirds.
