Who's ready to feel the sand between their toes? With the warmest months of the year come regular trips to the beach. And, how lucky are we to live in Missouri, a state brimming with swimming holes, water parks, and sandy beaches with clear water that rivals the Caribbean? Next time you're on the hunt for a different beach at which to sunbathe and to swim, set the GPS for this hidden beach in Missouri.
Feel as though you've journeyed to a tropical paradise at Long Branch State Park, in Macon, a 1,828-acre park that offers something for the whole family.
However, during the warmer months, you'll likely want to head straight to the sandy beach, where you can throw your beach towel or lounge chair onto the sand.
And, wile away the hours soaking up the golden sunshine or swimming in the crystal clear water of Long Branch Lake. (Take precautions, however, as there are no lifeguards on duty at the beach.)
All that sun and relaxation have your stomach rumbling? Spread out a picnic lunch or dinner at one of the picnic tables. Or, stop by the Marina, which sells a variety of drinks, ice cream treats, and other snacks.
How does an impromptu game of volleyball sound? Let the sand sink beneath your toes as you play against other beachgoers.
Or, watch the kids as they climb, run, and play at the playground.
Of course, you'll find plenty more to do at the sprawling state park, including boating, hiking, biking, and camping.
Plan your visit to the Long Branch State Park beach, open through September 5, 2019. Hours run from sunrise to sunset daily.
Address: 3326, 28615 Visitor Center Road, Macon, MO, 63552
