Missouri has many beautiful trails to explore across the state. Some of the best nature spots in the nation can be found in the Missouri Ozarks and this challenging hike is certainly one of the best. Hawn State Park is located on the southeastern side of the Missouri Ozarks near Ste. Genevieve. This rugged state park offers one of the most challenging hikes in Missouri. If you're an avid and experienced hiker you'll want to conquer this trail soon, if you're still a hiking novice there are other fantastic trails at Hawn State Park that you and your family can enjoy instead.
Whispering Pines Trail is a 9.75 mile long trail that features two distinct loops. So, you can test your endurance on a one day hike or take on the trail in a two day hike.
The entire loop will likly take about 9 and a half hours. However, an experienced hiker could finish it in less time. This hike should definitely only be taken by seasoned hikers.
The trail is marked with colored arrows. Red arrows identify the north loop; blue arrows mark the south loop.
Explore the banks of Pickle Creek and the River Aux Vases. You'll cross both of these streams along the trail.
There are a few wet weather waterfalls that can be seen along Whispering Pines Trail.
You'll love the unique features of this hike. The trail meanders through a beautiful pinewood forest, crossing through streams, and over scenic ridges. You can also see wildflowers and critters during your trek.
Unusual rock formations of sandstone and granite jet up from the ground around the trail. At some points you have to maneuver up and over or around these formations.
You'll be pretty tired after making it to the top of the trail. The views will make up for any blood, sweat, and tears shed!
As the days get warmer and the trees get greener, Whispering Pines Trail only gets better. It's truly a perfect Missouri trail.
