Editor's Note: As of 2021, Powell Gardens will no longer be hosting a pumpkin glow trail.
Every autumn you'll find volunteers hard at work to create one of the best pumpkin glows in Missouri. Powell Gardens hosts an annual event where pumpkins become the star of the show. Hundreds of pumpkins are carved and decorated for this autumn event unlike any other. Grab a sweater and come out this fall to see the best pumpkin glow in Missouri.
Powell Gardens is located about 40 minutes southeast of downtown Kansas City. It's the largest botanical garden in the area and has stunning displays of art and gardening.
Each Autumn, the garden prepares for one of their biggest events of the year. Throughout the autumn months, the garden is transformed by a trail of glowing jack-o-lanterns.
Volunteers start carving the pumpkins ahead of the event. They are always looking for more volunteers to help make this event bigger and better each year.
It's the perfect activity for your creative high schooler who's looking for some fun volunteering hours. It's also a great opportunity for someone who is working on their sculpting and carving skills. They even do some painted pumpkins!
Watch some of the special guest artists, like Charles Coker, carve huge pumpkins into mega masterpieces. These artists spend hours creating these giant carvings.
Some of the carvings end up looking pretty realistic. These pumpkins definitely look like something out of a horror movie.
Each year's autumnal attraction is a blast! As the sun begins to descend into the garden, it's downright incredible to explore the trail of jack-o-lanterns.
Some of the displays are quite intricate and showcase many pumpkins to create one cohesive piece. By day the displays still look pretty neat.
By nightfall, they transform into beautiful, glowing, works of art. Even the most simplistic designs look outstanding when aglow.
Admission to the autumn event is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $5 for kids ages 5 to 12. Kids under 5 and members are free.
The festival only takes place over one weekend so be sure to buy tickets in advance. You can find more information and purchase tickets from their website here.Address: 1609 N. U.S. Highway 50, Kingsville, MO, 64061
