Everybody’s got spring fever right now and we’re itching to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. However, time and money may be in short supply. Lucky for us, Missouri is full of wonderful little places to get away for a short two-day trip that are full of fun but won’t break the bank. The beautiful, historic German town of Hermann is just what the doctor ordered.

Hermann is a beautiful little river town near the center of the Missouri Rhineland and south of the Missouri River. It has been voted "Missouri’s Most Beautiful Town" by Rural Missouri Magazine and named "Best Small-Town Destination" and "Best Day Trip from St. Louis" in AAA’s Best of the Midwest poll. A nice relaxing getaway is in store for you the next two days!

Depending on how early in the day you leave home, and how far you have traveled, you might arrive in Hermann a bit hungry. Let’s start out with a snack at Wings A Blazin’.

Wings A Blazin’ is a relaxed aviation-themed restaurant with hot wings and other finger foods, craft beers and outdoor seating. They are known for their 25 cent "chicken lip" night. Chicken Lips are boneless chicken wings, and theirs are not breaded, but go straight into fryers and are tossed in a selection of sauces like honey BBQ, honey mustard, Jamaican jerk, garlic parmesan and teriyaki.

Now that our hunger is satisfied, let’s do a little shopping and exploring in beautiful Downtown Hermann. There are loads of galleries and shops, so let’s wander around and see what there is to find.

Did you find some great treasures? Shopping and exploring can work up and appetite! Time for some dinner at The Tin Mill Restaurant.

Even if you took advantage of the continental breakfast in your suite this morning, we’ll still start our day with the amazing breakfast buffet at Hermann Wurst House. It’s not to be missed!

The Hermann Wurst Hause offers hundreds of in-house flavors of bratwurst, summer sausage, bacon and more. They offer free samples, but what better way to sample than by enjoying their breakfast buffet, which they serve every Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Stay and browse their wares, and take some home with you.

After all of that delicious food, time to walk it off and learn a little about the area at the Historic Hermann Museum.

Located at 312 Schiller Street, the Historic Hermann Museum is housed in the historic German School building. The building, constructed in 1871, served as Hermann’s elementary school until 1955. It also features the clock tower, which has been operating continuously since 1890.

Visit the museum's many rooms, with all kinds of items including pre-Prohibition wine and beer items, river port memorabilia, an early school classroom, old musical instruments, and much, much more.

You might still be full from brunch, but whether you need some nourishment or not, we can still drop in for a taste at Hermannhof Winery.

Located at 30 East First Street, Hermannhof Winery offers deli favorites paired with delicious Hermannhof wine. If it’s a beautiful day, enjoy your glass(es) of exquisite wine on the patio.

Deutschheim State Historic Site consists of buildings and demonstration gardens whose purpose is to preserve the culture and heritage of the Germans who migrated to Missouri in the 19th century. The 1840 Pommer-Genter house is one of the oldest buildings in Hermann, built by some of the founders of the town. There is a demonstration garden and barn with 19th century tools.

The Carl Strehly house was originally built in 1842 as a three-room house but was enlarged over the next 27 years many times. Expansions included more room for a growing family, a printing business, and a winery and wine cellar.

Before we head out of Hermann, let’s stop at the Downtown Deli & Custard Shoppe.

Located at 216 East First Street, Downtown Deli is a great stop for some delicious deli sandwiches and yummy ice-cream.

If you get the chance, visit during their upcoming annual Mayfest from May 21-22. A Hermann tradition, it’s an entire weekend full of fun and festivities ending with a Sunday afternoon parade. Are your bags packed yet?
