Looking for a fun outdoor activity the entire family will love? Then you’ve got to pay a visit to A Stroka Gene-us Alpaca Farm. The charming farm offers informative tours that are perfect for kids and adults alike. But you can do much more than tour the grounds while at the farm. You can also buy some freshly-produced farm goods as well as take spinning, knitting, and crocheting classes. Take a look:
A Stroka Gene-us Alpaca Farm is in Stringer, which is located between Laurel and Bay Springs.
The small family farm is home to a few ducks, lots of chickens, and…
…34 alpacas. So, just what is an alpaca?
They belong to the camelid family, which originated in South America. At first glance, alpacas look a lot like llamas, but they’re actually much smaller.
Aiming to educate the public on the cute, furry animals, the farm offers an informative tour. Fun for all ages, the tour lasts about 1.5 hours and cost $5 per person.
Typically, a minimum of 10 people are required for a tour; however, arrangements can be made for smaller groups by calling the farm prior to your visit.
As you tour the farm, you’ll learn all about alpacas, including how their luxurious fiber is turned into yarn.
You’ll even be able to get up close and personal with the alpacas as you feed them.
As if that’s not enough, you’ll get to make a wet felted soap during the tour that you can take home as a souvenir.
The hands-on fun doesn’t have to end with the wet felted soap, though. The farm offers spinning, knitting, and crocheting classes, so you can learn exactly what to do with the incredibly soft yarn produced using alpaca fiber.
Whether or not you go on the tour, a visit to the farm’s store is a must.
Inside, you’ll find a variety of items produced on the farm – from goat milk soap to hand-dyed alpaca yarn.
Offering outdoor fun, great shopping, and classes, this farm really does have something for everyone!
