Winter, spring, summer, and fall…no matter the season, there’s a reason to visit Pickwick Lake! Not only is the lake stunning year-round, but it offers a wealth of recreational opportunities, which, like the surroundings, change with the seasons.
Pickwick Lake spans dozens of miles through three states: Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee.
It doesn’t matter which state you’re in, though, because every foot of the nearly-500-mile-shoreline is spectacularly scenic.
Each season brings a new type of beauty to Pickwick Lake. There's vibrant foliage in the fall and, because it's located in northern Mississippi, snow is likely in winter.
Outdoor enthusiasts flock to Pickwick Lake year-round to enjoy everything from waterfront camping to an array of water sports.
Spring presents the perfect opportunity to fish for largemouth bass, and in the fall, smallmouth bass are the desired catch. During the warm months of summer, the sparkling waters of Pickwick Lake offer unmatched sailing, swimming, and water-skiing.
One of the best things about Pickwick Lake is its accessibility. J.P. Coleman State Park is situated on the lake’s shores and offers an array of amenities, including camping.
Of course, J.P. Coleman State Park isn’t the only place to camp on Pickwick Lake. There’s also Pickwick Adventures, a glampground with tents, cabins, activities, and more.
Though stunning from the shore, Pickwick Lake is best enjoyed by boat. With a boat you can explore the lake’s lovely sights, which, among other things, include a 50-foot waterfall.
Don’t have a boat? Don’t worry! Pickwick Lake Boat Rentals, which is based out of Eastport Marina, has got you covered.
Also at Eastport Marina, Eastport Grill is a seasonal restaurant that offers great burgers and waterfront vistas.
Picturesque beauty and water-related fun aren’t all Pickwick Lake has going for it, though. It also boasts a great locale.
It’s nestled in Iuka, which, despite being a small town, has some great sites and attractions. In addition to the state’s only public covered bridge, Iuka is home to one of world’s only apron museums.
Check out the J.P. Coleman State Park website for more information on Pickwick Lake as well as the park’s other amenities. You can also call the park at (662) 423-6515.
