When thinking of u-pick farms in Mississippi, blueberry farms are likely what come to mind. And as sweet as pick-your-own berry farms are, they’re not the only type of u-pick farm in Mississippi. The state is also home to a u-pick sunflower farm. Dubbed Coastal Ridge Farm, the flower farm boasts blooms two times a year - in the spring and fall, which means now is the perfect time to visit!
Coastal Ridge Farm is a “little flower farm” in the small town of Picayune.
In addition to thousands of golden sunflowers, the 15-acre farm features fields of brightly colored zinnias.
Twice a year, the farm opens to the public, allowing visitors to walk through its fields and pick their own bouquets of blooms.
The farm’s u-pick season is dependent on the flowers; however, it typically runs from May – June and September – October.
During the u-pick season, Coastal Ridge Farm is open from 9 a.m. – dusk.
U-pick tickets, which are $14 for ages 12 and up*, are sold on the farm’s website. Tickets can also be purchased at the farm, but remember, it’s CASH only.
*Children 11 and under are FREE with a paid adult.
The ticket includes admission only. You’re responsible for bringing your own cutting tool, bucket, and gardening gloves.
It’s also a good idea to bring water and other snacks, as the farm doesn’t sell or provide any refreshments.
Lastly, you’ll want to wear old, flat shoes since the flower fields are rough and, at times, muddy.
And don’t worry about social distancing – there’s plenty of space to stretch out. Plus, hand-washing stations are available, allowing for sanitizing throughout your visit.
Flower availability determines the farm’s hours, which is why you’ll want to confirm the farm is open before visiting.
For more information, call Coastal Ridge Farm at (601) 918-3770. You can also visit the farm’s website or Facebook page.
