Hiking in Mississippi might not be as adventurous as it is in some other states, but we’ve got our fair share of great treks. You’ll find everything from famous trails, like the Tanglefoot Trail, to easy hikes in Mississippi. But magical hikes? You might not know it, but the Magnolia State has got a few of those, too. Take, for instance, the Chadwick Lake Walking Trail. Hiding in plain sight and boasting great features, like lake views and a boardwalk, it’s an unexpectedly magical hiking trail that’s perfect for a scenic stroll. If you're in the area and wonder, "Where is there a walking trail near me," head to this gem in Mississippi.
The Chadwick Lake Walking Trail is on the campus of Mississippi State University (MSU) in Starkville.
Open to the public, the one-mile-long trail circles Chadwick Lake.
Chadwick Lake in Starkville, MS has long been a campus highlight.
It's only gotten more popular with the addition of the Chadwick Lake Walking Trail in 2013.
Easy to traverse, the six-foot-wide, ADA-compliant trail is paved throughout. And the portion that isn’t paved features a boardwalk. This accessible path makes an ideal outing when you're wondering, "Where can I find family-friendly hiking trails near me?".
Because the trail follows the banks of Chadwick Lake, the beautiful waterfront vistas are abundant.
However, the great views aren’t limited to the lake. The surrounding green space is just as lovely, which is why it’s a popular picnic spot.
Just like the great views aren’t limited to the lake, the recreational opportunities to explore aren't limited to Chadwick Lake Walking Trail.
Just a short distance from the hike, there's a collection of outdoor fitness equipment, making it easy to squeeze in a full workout.
You can even veer off the walking trail to do some fishing (so long as you have a fishing permit) in Chadwick Lake in Starkville, MS. There are bass, crappie, and catfish in the lake.
Chadwick Lake Walking Trail isn’t the only must-visit site on the MSU campus, though.
MSU boasts several points of interest, including the Chapel of Memories, Veteran's Memorial Rose Garden, and the MAFES Sales Store, which is famous for its cheese.
