What's the first thing you think of when you think of Mississippi? For some people, it could be the miles of coastline along the gulf, and for others, it could be the out-of-this-world food. But, for us, Mississippi always makes us think of their amazing parks. While many of their parks are popular (which sometimes also means crowded) Lamar Park in Oxford, Mississippi, has stayed under the radar, making it perfect for your next outing.
Located just west of Oxford, Mississippi, Lamar Park has an incredible lake with an equally picturesque dock to take you out into the middle of the lake.
Lamar Park is special because it is designed to be an outdoor arboretum. In conjunction with the City of Oxford, the park is intended to bring people closer to nature and does not allow parties, barbecues, loudspeakers, or sporting events.
But don't worry, dogs are allowed! Although pups must be kept on a leash, feel free to take your best friend for a walk around the lake while taking in the greenery.
The Yokna Sculpture trail also ends in Lamar Park! This trail begins on University Avenue and 14th Street before winding towards the park, and there are plenty of unique sculptures to be seen.
There is also a gazebo if you want to enjoy a snack or read in the park.
The greenery at Lamar Park is quite special, and provides the perfect peaceful escape into nature.
Ultimately, Lamar Park is a quiet oasis when you need a nice quiet walk to think and enjoy nature. While this is not a park to host social gatherings, we love this idea and think others will enjoy the park too. Have you been to Lamar Park? What do you think about this type of park?
