There are lots of ways to admire the Mississippi River in Natchez. You can hike along its banks, you can dine while overlooking its waters, or you can go for a stroll along the Natchez Bluff Trail and do both.
The Natchez Trace Parkway isn’t the only trail accessible to Natchez locals and visitors. There are actually several trails that traverse the charming riverfront town.
Regardless of which hike you choose, you’ll begin your trek at the Trails Pavilion, an outdoor kiosk where you’ll find information on the trails as well as Natchez.
One of the most popular trails is the Bluff Trail.
Aptly named, the trail meanders along the top of a bluff and then down a 200-foot staircase to its base.
Running alongside the Mississippi River, the trail boasts beautiful views of the waterfront from start to finish. A few of Natchez’s stately antebellum homes are also visible from the trail.
Interpretive panels line the entire trail. Each panel provides a bit of Natchez history.
Feel free to take your time, soak in the views, and read the informative panels.
Not only are there several benches along the trail, but the path is wide enough to accommodate walkers as well as those who prefer to leisurely enjoy the sights.
The Bluff Trail comes to an end just a short jaunt from Magnolia Grill.
A favorite of locals and tourists alike, the grill serves up steaks, seafood, and some of the “best burgers you’ll ever have.”
The views are just as good as the food. Not only does Magnolia Grill overlook the Mighty Mississippi, but it has a glassed-in deck, so you can comfortably admire the river while you dine.
