The highest point in Mississippi is only about 800 feet above sea level, so this state isn’t exactly known for its towering peaks and mile-long vistas.
However, there is a pretty little path that will take you to some fabulous overlook views without too much effort. Plus, the path is usually pretty quiet. Here’s what you need to know.
Little Mountain Trail is a quick and easy trail that will take you to a grassy overlook and some very pretty views. It’s also lightly trafficked, meaning you’re unlikely to encounter too many other hikers.
Located in Jeff Busby Park near Ackerman,, the hike consists of a half-mile loop trail that winds its way through verdant woodland.
You’ll pass shady groves of trees and cross a charming wooden bridge on your way to the top. The hike isn’t strenuous and takes most people under an hour to complete.
Once you reach the top, sit back and admire the view. It’s a vantage point that will let you see for miles.
Feel free to bring a picnic blanket and enjoy a snack in the sunshine. It’s also a great place to snap a few photos, especially around sunrise or sunset.
The trail can get muddy after a heavy rainfall, so keep your eye on the weather report and bring sturdy footwear. This is also one hike that might be even better in the winter, when the foliage is thinner and you can see farther.
