Located along a lonely stretch of highway near Foxworth, you’ll find one of Mississippi’s most impressive wonders – a massive canyon that seems to go on forever. Officially named Red Bluff, the unbelievable site is often referred to as Mississippi’s Little Grand Canyon. Offering one-of-a-kind views and amazing hiking opportunities, this hidden gem is worth checking out. Take a look:
Mississippi’s Little Grand Canyon is located on Highway 587 in the community of Morgantown.
As you drive along the highway, you’ll pull up to "Road Closed" signs, where you’ll find plenty of room to park and access to Red Bluff.
Created by the natural erosion of the nearby Pearl River, the expansive canyon stretches a half mile wide.
Currently, it’s about one mile long; a number that will continue to increase as each year passes and more rain falls.
You’ll be able to walk right up to the edge of the canyon, which is about 150’ deep.
Standing at the canyon’s edge, you’ll be met with unparalleled views made up of miles of tree tops and the Pearl River.
The breathtaking views are even better if you’re willing to hike to the bottom of the canyon.
Though there’s not an official trail, the 400’ path is well-worn; however, it can be a bit slippery, so be careful.
Once at the bottom of the canyon, spend some time exploring the sandbars of the Pearl River as well as some wreckage from a train that was derailed years back.
