There are plenty of charming small towns in Mississippi, but few can compare to the lovely little town of Belzoni. Belzoni is a tiny little town in Humphreys County that’s home to about 2,500 folks. Known for its epic World Catfish Festival that’s held every April, there’s one special garden in Belzoni, Mississippi that’s a bit of a hidden gem...until now.
Let’s take a stroll through this beautiful garden, shall we?
Welcome to Wister Gardens, a 14-acre botanical oasis that’s just waiting for you.
From the moment you pull up to the gate, you'll be inspired to start planning your own garden. This hidden gem is perfect for a solo adventure, but it's also kid-friendly, so if you want to bring the whole family along for an outing, go right ahead!
The gardens were designed in 1937 by Frances Chiles Henry and Wister Henry.
And they've been cared for ever since! Of course, new additions have been added over the years. It's always transforming every season with new blooms, which is why this is one special spot in Mississippi you really have to visit more than once.
As you stroll through the garden, take a moment to appreciate all of the beautiful blooms here.
One of the perks of living in Mississippi is that our winters are mild enough that we still get year-round blooms.
Wister Gardens is a wonderful spot for events, too.
With views like that, who wouldn't want to get married here? Wister Gardens hosts many different types of events, including reunions, graduation parties, and showers, too.
The gardens are perfectly manicured and just dreamy any time of year.
And there are a few benches peppered around so you can sit for a spell and take it all in.
We especially love the water features.
There's just something about the sound of running water that'll put you in a state of pure nirvana.
You'll want to come back every few months so you can watch the gardens transform with every season.
The garden is open daily from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Visit the Wister Gardens website to learn more about private events.
While you're exploring Belzoni, pay a visit to the Sky Lake Wildlife Management Area. This beautiful little natural oasis is home to some of the oldest trees in the world!
