There are plenty of fascinating places to visit here in Mississippi. In fact, you probably had a fairy tale spot in mind as you read the title of this article, right? Wonder no longer, friends, today we’re here to tell you about Wister Gardens, a lovely spot in Belzoni that is a perfect fairy land in every season. Read on for how to plan your trip:
A long lane leads to an adorable colonial house surrounded by fourteen acres of blooms and petals so wonderful you’ll never want to leave.
That colonial house sits amid a stunning display of foliage, but it’s not the main attraction—we’ve come here for the fairy tale quality of the grounds themselves.
How did this property wind up with fourteen acres of dreamy trails and a plethora of plant species? Around 1937, Frances Chiles Henry and Wister Henry designed the property that would come to be called by Wister’s name.
The building here is the heated and cooled, glassed in garden house. You can book events in there.
Many events are held in the gardens. Probably because it's such a wonderful place to start the rest of your life.
The imported Italian fountain on the property covers a naturally flowing artesian well.
There’s really no bad time to visit the gardens. Look how stunning this space looks in the snow:
Hundreds of varieties of azaleas line the pathways and wooded areas. In fact, there are 8,000 azaleas lining the paths of the 14-acre estate. Each bloom is more magnificent than the last.
The gardens are maintained by Friends of Wister Gardens.
Plenty of waterfowl occupy the property, ranging from common ducks to black swans. By the way, did we mention the lovely ornamental ponds?
It’s the perfect place to wonder as you wander and maybe sit a spell to admire the wild world all around you.
Wister Gardens is open to explorers from 9-5, Saturday through Sunday, year round, with the exception of major holidays. It’s definitely one of the most magical places on earth.
