Visitors to Charlie’s U-Pik in Lucedale are met with a dream-like sight – a field filled with golden sunflowers. This u-pick Mississippi farm is a magical sight like no other. Luckily, though, you can do more than admire the bright blooms from afar. You can actually pick some to take home with you. As one of our favorite Mississippi flower farms, it belongs on your list, and chances are, you’ll love it, too.
A u-pick farm of epic proportions, Charlie’s U-Pik boasts two locations and over 150 acres of fruits, veggies, and sunflowers.
The first location opened “by accident” in Lucedale in the 90s.
The story goes that Mr. Charlie, the farm’s namesake, planted 10 acres of tomatoes, which he quickly realized was too much to consume alone. Not wanting his surplus crops to go to waste, he placed an ad in the local newspaper, advertising "pick your own tomatoes. The rest is history.
Coming a long way since its early days, the Lucedale farm now spans 100 acres.
And because of the Lucedale farm's success, a second 50-acre farm opened in Wiggins in 2017.
Today, both farms open to the public every spring and summer, offering an array of u-pick and already-picked produce.
The farm’s selection includes a slew of seasonal staples, such as tomatoes, strawberries, peppers, corn, and lots more.
In more recent years, the farm’s u-pick fields have grown to include sunflowers.
Like all the other crops, the sunflowers’ availability can vary from year to year, but they typically bloom in summer and fall.
The vibrant field of blooms is now a farm favorite, attracting everyone from photographers to families.
Ready to pick some blooms? Wait just a minute; there are a couple of things you should know.
First, you’ll need to bring clippers or scissors. Second, you’ve got to bring a container to transport your sunflowers home from the farm.
And for those who don't want to pick their own blooms, there are already-picked sunflowers.
Boasting a bevy of blooms (and produce!) in a beautiful setting, Charlie's U-Pik is almost too good to be real. Luckily, though, it is!
Don't forget, the farm’s hours are subject to change, depending on weather and crop availability. Current offerings are advertised on Charlie’s U-Pik website. If you have questions, call the farm at (601) 530-0548.
