The Mighty Mississippi is truly a sight to see. And while it can be seen from various parts of the state, Vicksburg offers some of the best views of the famous river. The city has not one but two overlooks, each of which lets you see for miles and miles. Take a look:
As you can see from the map, Vicksburg’s two overlooks are officially named Louisiana Circle and Navy Circle.
Because of their close proximity to one another, most simply refer to both spots as the Mississippi River Overlook.
With unrestricted views, the overlooks are two of the most popular spots for viewing the Mighty Mississippi.
The 180° panoramic view from atop the overlook is consistently described as "awe-inspiring."
On a clear day, visibility spans for miles. You can even see Louisiana on the other side of the river.
Undeniably stunning, the expansive vistas are sure to impress, so be sure to bring a camera!
Louisiana Circle and Navy Circle are both extensions of the Vicksburg National Military Park, which means they’re brimming with as much history as scenic beauty.
Informative signage, a cannon exhibit, and Union tablet are a few clues regarding the area’s significance.
Both overlooks are located on Washington St., Vicksburg, MS 39180. (Louisiana Circle is near the Ameristar Casino and Riverfront Park and Navy Circle is by the Vicksburg Welcome Center.) For more information, visit the National Park Service website.
