Tishomingo State Park is located at the base of the Appalachian Mountains and boasts 1,500 acres of beautiful, varied landscapes. Bear Creek Canyon is one of the key sites in the park, being Mississippi’s only rock canyon. Bear Creek Outcropping Trail takes hikers through this canyon and around to see spectacular views of the surrounding area.
The trail is a 1.8-mile loop that is suitable for hikers of all ages and skill levels. It is well-marked, making it easy to navigate.
The various rock outcroppings make the trail visually exciting. There is always something unique to see around every bend.
Rock climbing is very popular in the area, and with these wacky formations, it’s easy to see why.
A rope bridge hangs above Bear Creek, daring hikers to discover their inner adventurer and cross the waters below!
It is known as the Swinging Bridge, and a giant arch marks its location.
The impressive ferns and miscellaneous foliage make it seem as if hikers are stepping back in time, to a prehistoric era.

In addition to the outcroppings, there are a few caves along the trail. Mystery abounds in Bear Creek Canyon!
This trail is used year-round due to the temperate climate in Mississippi, so trips can be planned for anytime.

Tishomingo State Park is located at 105 Co Road 90 in Tishomingo, Mississippi. Bear Creek Outcropping Trail is marked on the park map as trail #7 and begins at the Swinging Bridge. Happy hiking!
