Every year, dozens of towns in Minnesota get dressed in their winter best to delight locals and tourists alike. There is no denying the effort that gets put into making each town's festivities spectacular, but there is one town in particular whose winter celebrations rise above the rest. Stillwater is the absolute best winter town in Minnesota, and it's one whose charm is irresistible. Take a look at this charming winter wonderland town in Minnesota.
Sitting on the western bank of the St. Croix River, Stillwater is a picturesque town made even more beautiful when it's covered in snow.
The town gets an average of 42 inches of snow each year, making it a true winter wonderland - and a great place to spend the holidays.
Nearly everyone gets involved in making the town festive and inviting. Charming decorations on historic houses give the town an old-fashioned look.
Downtown Stillwater is full of festive decorations, too. The twinkling snowflakes stay lit throughout the winter.
The gazebo at Lowell Park also gets the Christmas treatment. With the St. Croix River as a backdrop, it doesn't get more magical than this.
If you really love lights, there is even a free Twinkle Parade that takes place around the first weekend in December each year. You'll adore the opportunity to watch the annual tree lighting, eat sweet treats, and take a free trolley ride.
During Christmas, Stillwater has a monthlong celebration called Hometown for the Holidays. Santa strolls Main Street on Saturdays and Sundays up until around the week of Christmas... after all, he has to head back to the North Pole to prepare for his busiest night of the year.

You can also enjoy a group of carolers who wander around downtown while wearing Victorian costumes. They sing Fridays and Saturdays up until around Christmas Eve.
Visitors love to ride a Victorian horse-drawn wagon - completely free! Wagon rides are available on select nights leading up to the holiday. They often return for Valentine's Day.
Stillwater has plenty of non-Christmas activities, too. Three ski resorts are close by, making the town an ideal destination for snow lovers.
If you miss the holiday fun, don't fret! An annually anticipated event is Sticks in Stillwater. Mite hockey players battle it out on an outdoor rink, an event that returns in mid-January after the New Year has settled in.
