With as many waterfalls as there are in Minneosta, it’s easy to get distracted by the tallest and most popular. But that leaves out many smaller but still beautiful waterfalls that are just as lovely to visit. For example, the town of Hastings might just be home to the most underrated waterfall in Minnesota. Vermillion Falls is a 30-foot waterfall on the Vermillion River. It’s found in the middle of the small, eastern Minnesota city of Hastings.
The waterfall is easily accessible by visiting Vermillion Falls Park. The park features paths alongside the Vermillion River. Address: 215 21st Street East, Hastings, MN 55033.
The Vermillion River, named for the red clay along its banks, runs through Hastings. But despite the nearby activity, its banks are tranquil and quiet. Trees and foliage offer shelter from the busy surroundings.
Nearby mill ruins point to the history of this place. The Vermillion River once powered several flour mills. While they are no longer in operation, some ruins still remain.
Nearby buildings add to the unique atmosphere surrounding this underrated waterfall. Being in the middle of the city, it's much different from those found in other parts of Minnesota.
Watching the rush of the waterfall from the nearby walkway is simply magical. You won't want to leave.
