When it comes time to play, Minnesotans know how to do it right. We play hard when we can, because we know that sooner or later it's going to get too cold to be outside. Because of this, we have plenty of cool playgrounds to use when the urge to swing and slide takes over. But there's at least one little-known playground that goes above and beyond a simple swing set. The Big Woods Play Area at Lake Rebecca Park Reserve is a charming playground that looks like it comes straight out of a storybook.
Nestled in a small forested area just outside the Twin Cities, the Big Woods Play Area delights all who stumble upon it.
This park has everything that comes to mind when you think of a classic Minnesota scene.
It features a winding tunnel slide atop a tall wooden tower.
On the other side is another slide that looks just like a hollowed out log!
Speaking of logs, there's also a giant split log for kids to crawl through or use as a secret hideout
In fact, there are hideouts almost everywhere you look. The little nooks and crannies mimic what you might find in nature.
Another popular part of the playground is the cabin. This super detailed hideout is designed to look like something from the 1800s.
With an old calendar on the wall and a shelf full of curiosities, the cabin is definitely going to charm any kid who crosses its threshold.
And so will the animal replicas hidden around the playground. The mouse and the baby deer are easy to spot. An eagle perched overhead might take a keener eye.
All in all, this playground will definitely make you think of a storybook - one set in Minnesota's woods.
Lake Rebecca Park Reserve is located 9831 Rebecca Park Trail in Rockford, Minnesota. You'll find out how to reach the playground - plus many other outdoor activities - here.
