The Normandale Japanese Garden in Bloomington is a perfect place to get some fresh air without running into too many crowds. Better yet, this secret garden in Minnesota is seriously beautiful.

It's on the grounds of Normandale Community College.
The park was completed in 1976 after years of planning. The garden replaced what was once a swampy area behind the college.
It's complete with paths, buildings, and a lovely lagoon. We think it's one of the best gardens in Minnesota!
Careful thought went into the design of the garden. Takao Watanabe, a Japanese garden architect, was instrumental in the planning.
From the shapes of the buildings to the lanterns in the garden, each item has a symbolic meaning.
For example, two of the lagoon's islands, Crane Island and Turtle Island, symbolize longevity and good health respectively.
These days, the garden is often used for special events. Its beautiful greenery, eye-catching bridges, and unique buildings make it a fun spot for weddings.
When it's not being used for a special event, visitors are welcome to enjoy the garden's serenity by walking its paths.
There is always something interesting around every corner. Plenty of beautiful plants and flowers make a home here, including a huge willow tree that sways over the still water.
One of the best parts about the garden? It's open all year. The red bridges and buildings pop against fresh white snow.
And in the spring, cherry and apple blossoms bloom.
