We all know that New York and Ontario are home to the real Niagara Falls. But that doesn't mean there aren't plenty of other beautiful waterfalls across the country - including in Minnesota. In fact, Minnesota is home to a border waterfall of its own. Also shared with Ontario, the High Falls of the Pigeon River is Minnesota's own Niagara Falls. It's one of the prettiest place in the entire state. Take a look:
You'll find Minnesota's Niagara Falls at Grand Portage State Park. This beautiful, remote spot is on the northern border with Canada.
When you arrive, you'll be awestruck by the beauty of this wild place. A thick northern forest will surround you as you walk the paths.
There is much to see, like the rugged cliffs that make up this landscape. It's unlike anywhere else in Minnesota.
The Pigeon River itself is beautiful, too. Dotted with large rocks, it is a picturesque sight that ou won't be able to keep your eyes off of.
Lined with a thick forest full of diverse trees, this area of Minnesota is beautiful no matter the season.
There are many trails leading to the waterfall. The High Falls is easily accessed by a .5-mile hike from the parking lot. To see the Middle Falls, it's an additional 3.5 miles.
No matter which trail you take, you will not regret the effort. But since it's such a long drive, you might as well do as much as you can!
When you finally reach the High Falls of the Pigeon River, all of your efforts will be forgotten anyway. This breathtaking waterfall rises 130 feet above the landscape. That's only 37 feet shorter than the real Niagara Falls!
Minnesota's Niagara Falls is gorgeous all year. Take a hike to the falls in winter, and you'll be greeted by an otherworldly frozen falls.
At 130 feet tall, the High Falls of the Pigeon River is Minnesota's tallest waterfall. Plan a trip to Grand Portage State Park this summer to see it in all its glory.
