Aside from our 10,000 lakes, we are home to hundreds of miles of river, vast forests, and sweeping prairie vistas full of waving grass. Every region of Minnesota has a stunning landscape to offer. That statement may be more true in Duluth than anywhere else. There is a nature reserve there that rises high above the city and comes complete with an incredible view. Take a look:
Hawk Ridge is a nature reserve and bird observatory in Duluth, Minnesota.
The area draws guests from all over the country and world who are interested in the migratory birds of the region.
And it's no wonder this has become a prime spot for birdwatching. Hawk Ridge's location atop a high hill makes it a wonderful place to observe birds.
There is a viewing platform where visitors can observe and photograph birds that make homes in or migrate through the area.
While the focus is on raptors such as hawks, eagles, and owls, it is possible to see many other species as well.
In addition to viewing opportunities, the reserve is also a great place to learn about birds. Naturalists lead talks and demonstrations involving the birds.
Of course, you can't visit Hawk Ridge without noticing the spectacular view. You'll see endless trees, blue sky, and the sparkle of Lake Superior in the distance.
