The Land of 10,000 Lakes has no shortage of beautiful landscapes. Ou state is home to endless gorgeous lakes, vast forests, and rushing waterfalls. There's even a place where you can find all three: the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. This iconic wilderness was named the most beautiful place in Minnesota by Condé Nast Traveler, and we couldn't agree more. Actually, we would argue that it might just be the most beautiful place in the country. Take a look...
The Boundary Waters Canoe Area is a vast wilderness in northern Minnesota. Every year, its 1,090,000 acres of pristine forests and lakes draw visitors from all over the world.
More than 1,000 lakes are found in the Boundary Waters, making it a go-to destination for people who enjoy paddling or fishing. Whether
Small streams and rivers also crisscross the boundary waters. Some, such as the Kawishiwi River, eventually become waterfalls. Kawishiwi Falls is a popular Boundary Waters waterfall, and it's absolutely amazing. (You can read more about it here!)
Because most of the area prohibits motorized vehicles, your paddling or fishing trip will be met by the silence of Mother Nature. Your trip is bound to be perfectly peaceful and restorative.
Many longer Boundary Waters trips involve canoe portages. But don't let that stress you out. The vast wooded lands of the Boundary Waters offer many beautiful sights, including wildflowers, wild mushrooms, and maybe even some wild animal life.
If you're staying overnight, there are many places to set up camp. Because the region is so vast, you won't likely run into too many other people while you travel through the region.
At night, you'll get even more of a treat. Far away from city lights, the sky twinkles with millions and millions of stars. This is one of the best places to see the stars in Minnesota. It's even an official Dark Sky Sanctuary.
Next time you're looking for a beautiful place to visit in Minnesota, try planning a trip to the Boundary Waters. This vast region of northern Minnesota is full of immense beauty and perfect peace and quiet.
