Most people know about Minnehaha Falls and any of the numerous state parks in Minnesota. But did you know there are a lot of other, less popular parks as well? They may not get as much attention, but they're great places to visit if you're interested in something off the beaten path. Hidden Falls Regional Park is a great example of one of Minnesota's lesser-known parks. With just as much nature - and fewer crowds - than other parks, it's a great place to go for a relaxing day outside. While it's not exactly a hidden park, it does hold a treasure that makes it worth a trip.
Here's what you need to know:
Hidden Falls Regional Park was founded in 1887. It's located along the Mississippi River in St. Paul.
The park contains many trails for hikers and cyclists - a total of 6.7 miles of paved trails.
The trails actually connect Hidden Falls to the nearby Crosby Farm Regional Park.
The trails pass alongside the shores of the Mississippi River, providing up-close views.
On a nice day, it's a fantastic place to watch boats mosey down the river.
You can even take your own boat for a spin. It's a popular spot for a day of fishing.

Of course, there's a lot to see on-shore as well. Old, gnarled trees line the shores and make for a great photo opportunity.
The river is also dotted with picnic areas - 16 total. Some are covered, making this park a great place to spend an entire afternoon.
Hidden Falls Regional park is pretty in winter as well. The sight of the Mississippi surrounded by untouched snow is not one you get to see every day.
The park is even less crowded in winter, making a walk through the park even more peaceful.
The sound of Hidden Falls as it trickles downstream through a primitive stone area is truly beautiful.
