Southern Minnesota is full of lovely natural attractions, from grasslands in the west to the Mississippi River along the eastern border. But there are more than a few great sights in between. One example? Whitewater State Park in Minnesota, near the small town of Altura, about 30 minutes west of Winona. Whitewater is one of the most beautiful places in Minnesota, and for good reason. It's a beautiful natural area with great water access and phenomenal views.
Whitewater State Park contains 2,700 acres of nature along the Whitewater River and Trout Creek.
The limestone bluffs along the Whitewater River are a sight to see.
You'll also find beautiful natural caves as you hike along the river.
Elsewhere in the park, several walking bridges offer picturesque views.
And several hiking trails will give you plenty to do.
The Coyote Point Trail is a popular - though somewhat strenuous - trail. A series of switchbacks make it a two or three hour hike.
But the Chimney Rock Trail may be the most popular trail in the park.
It climbs along the river bluffs to offer a close-up view of an interesting rock formation.
And the other view at the top isn't half bad, either.
The park is a delight in summer, with a small beach for cooling off.
Over 100 campsites are available throughout the park.
In winter, Whitewater is just as gorgeous covered in snow.
There are even cozy cabins that allow you to camp all year!
Whitewater State Park in Minnesota is truly gorgeous at any time of year. Have you ever been there? Do you agree it's one of the prettiest places in Minnesota? Don't forget - Whitewater is renowned for its trout fishing, so don't forget to bring your gear!
