As the Land of 10,000 Lakes, we have a huge variety of bodies of water. Some, like Lake Superior, are amazingly deep. Others are tiny and shallow. Some are muddy, and some, like the lake we want to introduce today, are crystal clear. Deer Lake in Minnesota stands out as one of the clearest lakes in the state. Its crystal-clear waters and bright blue color make it look like something out of the Caribbean! Read on below to learn more about this beautiful lake in Minnesota:
Deer Lake is a large lake in Itasca County, Minnesota. It’s near the towns of Grand Rapids and Deer River.
The lake covers more than 4,000 acres, making it one of Minnesota’s biggest lakes. Many small islands dot its surface, many of which are home to wildlife such as bears, eagles, and more.
The lake’s size and wildlife are impressive, but it is most famous for its pristine waters. Fed by underwater springs, rainwater, and a single inlet, Deer Lake is clean and clear.
The lake’s clear waters make it appear a rainbow of colors throughout the day. In fact, Deer Lake is nicknamed “Lake of the Changing Colors.”
During the day it appears bright blue…
…and as the sun goes down, it takes on the color of a sunset. You won’t be able to look away from the vivid reds, purples, and pinks!
Thanks to this lake’s clear waters and bright blue color, it truly looks like something out of the Caribbean. Visit on a sunny day, and you might just be able to convince yourself you’re on a tropical island!
