In keeping with the inflatable water park trend, this unique spot within Bald Mountain State Recreation Area is accessible from Detroit in less than an hour, and it provides childlike glee for all who take a dip. Challenge your loved ones to a race atop the massive water pillows, slide into the refreshing lake, or rent a paddle board to make your journey complete. There’s really something here for everyone at Water Warrior Island!
Kids and grownups, alike, will make lasting memories at Blue Heron Bay Splash Park, which features water slides, water dump buckets, a concessions area, and more. If you’re looking for an even more involved outing, rent a pavilion to catch some shade or host a small family gathering before taking to the water. When temperatures are hot, we can’t imagine a more refreshing place to unwind. Blue Heron Bay typically remains open through Labor Day.
Make your way to Madison Heights for tons of fun at Red Oaks Waterpark, which is home to winding water slides, water-based play stations for younger kids, splash pads, a wave pool, and more. The park typically remains open through August, but we recommend purchasing tickets online before making the jaunt from Detroit to Red Oaks.
Open between Memorial Day and Labor Day, the Splash ‘n Blast section of Kensington Metropark is just one of this sprawling wonderland’s many attractions. Cool off among the water cannons, head down a 240-foot slide, or simply settle in with a good book while your loved ones enjoy the water. When you’re through, embark on a hike or enjoy a picnic lunch within this expansive park.
While many come to the Troy Family Aquatic Center for a straightforward dip in its swimming pool, others appreciate its water slides, spray zones, man-made waterfalls, and more. Open typically through the beginning of September, this Troy attraction is an ideal spot to let kids expend some energy while making fun memories with family members. Your entire group will be happily exhausted when it’s time to head back home.
This water park near Detroit is a fun destination that sits within a popular local park. It’s decidedly smaller than most of the other selections on our list, but that shouldn’t keep you from dropping by. If you’re looking for a slightly quieter and less crowded place to cool off, the Heritage Park Splash Pad is full of water jets, sprayers, and so much more. Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L.
